What is Odin?

Odin (Odin3) is Samsung’s internal firmware flashing tool. It flashes official packages (.tar / .tar.md5), custom recoveries, and more while the device is in Download Mode.

Official Odin is Windows-only. Recommended version: Odin3 v3.14.4.

For Linux: use odin4 (modern open-source) or Heimdall.

Complete Odin Flashing Guide

1. Install Samsung USB Drivers

Install drivers. Uninstall Kies/Smart Switch if present.

2. Download Firmware & Odin

Get firmware for exact model + CSC. Extract BL, AP, CP, CSC .tar.md5 files. Extract Odin and run as Administrator.

3. Boot into Download Mode

Power off β†’ Vol Down + Power (or Vol Down + Vol Up + Power) while connecting USB β†’ Vol Up to confirm.

4. Connect & Load Files

Odin shows COM port + β€œAdded!”. Load:

  • BL β†’ BL_*.tar.md5
  • AP β†’ AP_*.tar.md5
  • CP β†’ CP_*.tar.md5
  • CSC β†’ CSC (wipe) or HOME_CSC (keep data)

5. Options & Start

Auto Reboot ON, F. Reset Time ON, Re-Partition OFF, Nand Erase OFF. Click Start. Wait for PASS!

6. First Boot

First boot can take several minutes. Do not force restart.

Important Warnings

  • Flash only matching model + same/higher binary version
  • Wrong firmware or interrupted flash can brick the device
  • Use at your own risk on devices you own
